Warszawy i stanowi doskonałą okazję do uprawiania miejskiego „slow walking” oraz budowania sąsiedzkich więzi w trybie offline.

Sport and literature at the intersection of Powiśle and Śródmieście

This time we will discover an extraordinary, sports and cultural history of Warsaw. Our guide will be a living legend of sports journalism, Stefan Szczepłek, which will combine stories about iconic places with wonderful anecdotes and book excerpts. We will get a closer look at the sporting passions of artists such as Tadeusz Konwicki, Gustaw Holoubek, and Leopold Tyrmand. 

Walking route – sports monuments and interesting places:

  • Meeting point (Start): We meet next to the historic Stefan Batory High School, from where we will follow in the footsteps of urban legends, recalling the profiles of famous graduates from the world of culture.
  • Agricola: We will visit the first Polish National Stadium, also famous for being the place where the outstanding writer Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz proposed to Anna Lilpop in 1922.
  • The area around the Legia stadium and tennis courts: We will see spaces regularly visited by literary fans, including Marek Bieńczyk and Paweł Sołtys.
  • Torwar: We will pass by the place immortalized by Leopold Tyrmand on the pages of the most famous Warsaw crime novel – "Zły".
  • Former Legia pools: We will end the walk in a place that Agnieszka Osiecka called "Warsaw's summer salon".

The walk will be led by Stefan Szczepłek

Stefan Szczepłek is a renowned sports journalist since 1973 and has been associated with "Rzeczpospolita" since 1999. A Warsaw native from Falenica, he is a former Legia Warsaw basketball player, a Polonia Polonia football player, and a runner for AZS UW. He is the author of over twenty books on the history of football and the sporting history of the capital, including the four-volume series "Warsaw Goes to the Match" and a biography of Kazimierz Deyna. He was the first to receive the Bohdan Tomaszewski Grand Press Award and is also a two-time winner of the Dariusz Fikus Award. He is the author of football exhibitions and a guide to the National Stadium. During his Warsaw walk, Stefan will combine his knowledge of the sport of old with anecdotes from the world of literature. He will share firsthand and from his own experiences about the fan passions of famous artists, including Tadeusz Konwicki and Gustaw Holoubek.

The route will serve as a pretext for literary stories based on works by Leopold Tyrmand, Tadeusz Konwicki, Agnieszka Osiecka, and the guide herself from the series "Warsaw Goes to the Match.".
