#ReadingRule Meetings
#READINGRULES IN THE HOUSE OF LITERATURE
We invite all children to special reading meetings #ReadingRules in the House of Literature.
The program includes conversations with authors of children's books, close encounters with favorite literary heroes, shared reading, art games, autographs and photos.
Meetings are held twice a month – #ReadingRules in the Morning (open meetings for children and parents) and #Reading Rules Afternoon (meetings for organized groups and educators), in Warsaw House of Literature.
We are co-organizing the project with the Śródmieście District of Warsaw, cooperation with the Warsaw House of Literature. The partner of the meetings is the Świerszczyk Magazine for Children.

Why does #ReadingRule?
Reading is a social activity. Being around people who read is the first step towards reading fulfilling its equalizing role. Studies show that children who are taught to read for pleasure achieve better academic results, regardless of their parents’ wealth or education. This, in turn, predicts their future success at school and in their careers.
Our dream is for every child in Poland to have access to book culture. That is why we organize open meetings for children and parents, but also for organized groups with guardians, and we are especially interested in inviting children and educators from community centers.
The series is a continuation of the work of local governments to promote reading, which was strongly encouraged by the great involvement of the presidents of Polish metropolises in the #CzytanieRządzi campaign, which we launched in 2022 in cooperation with the Union of Polish Metropolises. Previous meetings with authors
The aim of the series is to make children friends with books and reading., through meetings with authors in a friendly atmosphere, reading excerpts and artistic games around books and literary characters.
Agnieszka Stróżyk
Swedish philologist, literary scholar, translator of children's and youth literature. She collaborates with Wydawnictwo Zakamarki, for which she has translated books by Åsa Lind, Jakob Wegelisua, Eva Susso, and Ulf Stark, among others. Graduate of Scandinavian studies at the University of Gdańsk and translation workshops at Södertörns Högskola. Her portfolio includes mainly books for children and youth. She also sometimes writes about books, especially picture books. She is involved in activities to popularize children's literature. She likes art.
Asa Lind
Åsa Lind was born in 1958, the youngest of four sisters, and grew up in the village of Karbäcken in northern Sweden. The kitchen table in her family home was the centre of her world. It was probably there, surrounded by the stories of her loved ones and the stories coming from the radio, that she became a writer, long before she learned to write. She cannot imagine life without reading and writing. In her books, she tries to capture things that are seemingly elusive, experiments with language, tries to rediscover it. Because what can actually be expressed in words? How do you “write” a colour? How do you “tell” a scent? Can you fit the cosmos into a book? Åsa Lind wants to write books that do not lie and that you want to return to. Because a good book is one that you read over and over again, and preferably out loud.
Pawel Beręsewicz
Writer, poet, translator, lexicographer. He writes novels, short stories and poems for children. He is a laureate of many prestigious literary awards, including the "Gulliver" award, the literary competition of the Polish Association of Book Publishers, the Kornel Makuszyński Literary Award, the award of the Polish Section of IBBY. He has been publishing children's books since 2004. Initially, he collaborated with the Skrzat publishing house, then also with the Łódź publishing house Literatura.
Ola Cieslak
author of texts for children and adults, illustrator, graphic artist, director, sculptor. She was nominated three times for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (2016, 2017 and 2018). She studied at the Faculty of Graphic Arts of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (diploma in the Book Design Studio) and at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Kuenste in Stuttgart. She has several solo exhibitions under her belt. She is the author of the books "Love Story" and "Od 1 do 10" published by Dwie Siostry.
Gregory Kasdepke
Grzegorz Kasdepke - One of the most widely read and most valued contemporary Polish authors of children's and youth books. Winner of numerous literary and journalistic awards, including Book of the Year 2001 of the Polish section of IBBY (2001), Kornel Makuszyński Literary Award (2002), Education XXI Award (2003, 2004), Best Book of the Year in the category of "literature for children" of the Wirtualna Polska plebiscite (2006). He collaborates with such publishing houses as: Literatura, Nasza Księgarnia, Egmont, Wydawnictwo Dwie Siostry, Wydawnictwo Literackie, Tamaryn, Agora and Muza. Winner of numerous awards. For many years he was the editor-in-chief of the popular children's magazine "Świerszczyk".
Catherine Ryrych
Polish writer, poet, teacher and painter. Daughter of Krakow poet Alicja Pochylczuk and journalist Sylwester Dziki. She graduated in English studies from the Jagiellonian University. She made her debut in 1981 with a volume of poetry "Zapiski siebie hipiski". Since then, she has published many books for adults and children, including Pamiętnik Babuni, Niebajki, Wiersze z pazurkiem, Philo, kot w drodze and Siedem sowich piór – a wise, moving short story, nominated for the title of "Book of the Year 2009" of the Polish section of IBBY. In the 2nd Astrid Lindgren Literary Competition, in which Wyspa mojego siostry brought her first prize, she also received a distinction for her book Łopianowe pole. She lives in Wieliczka, where she works as a teacher and spends her free time in her Krakow studio. She paints, plays the cello and piano. She has two sons. Loves animals, traveling and a good book.
Martin Widmark
Martin Widmark grew up in Linköping, but has lived in Stockholm since 1980. He is a teacher by profession. For 10 years he worked at the primary school in Rinkeby. Nowadays, in addition to writing books, he also teaches Swedish to immigrants. He writes children's books and textbooks. In May 2011, it was announced that Widmark had been named the best writer of 2010 in the 6+ category. This was the seventh year in a row that children had voted for his books.
Marta May
Marta works as a journalist on a daily basis. Her love for animals has always been with her - she grew up surrounded by dogs, cats and chickens, but it was not until she was 28 that she became a dog sitter on her own. That was when her adventure with behaviorism began. She is currently deepening her knowledge in this field through training, books and webinars. She is constantly working with her dog Precle to deepen the human-dog relationship and she also wants to teach this to the youngest through the fairy tales she creates.
Eliza Piotrowska
Polish writer, poet, illustrator, narrator and translator of children's books. She has created over 200 original publications, including the well-known "Aunt Jadzia". Her work is characterized by multidimensional depth, a timeless sense of humor and language free from everyday literalness. The multi-level nature of this literature means that its recipients are both children and adults. She collaborates with children's magazines and adult magazines devoted to literature for the youngest. Winner of important awards for literary, graphic and educational activities. Translated into many languages, including: Mongolian, Czech, Spanish, German, Korean.
Krzysztof Lapinski
Krzysztof Łapiński is a philosopher, translator, author of children's books, and scientific journalist. He teaches ancient philosophy and ecological ethics at the University of Warsaw. An expert in stoicism. He translated Marcus Aurelius' "Meditations (to Himself)" from Greek (2011). He completed his habilitation in 2019 based on a book about Marcus Aurelius. Scholarship holder of the Lanckoroński Foundation and the Kościuszko Foundation. In 2008-2009 he studied directing at the National Film School in Łódź. The book "Dzik Dzikus" (Agora Publishing House, 2020) was nominated for the Hestia Literary Journey award, was included on the IBBY list and the Alternative Reading List.
Rafal Kosik
Polish science fiction writer. He studied architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology, but interrupted his studies to establish the Powergraph advertising agency (later transformed into a publishing house), where he is the creative director and graphic designer. He also draws satirical cartoons. Author of the bestselling series of books for young people "Felix, Net and Nika". Honored with numerous awards. He received, among others, the Nautilus Award, the Janusz A. Zajdel Award, the Jerzy Żuławski Literary Award, and Mały Dong – Children's Bestseller of the Year 2007.
Marianna Oklejak
Polish illustrator and graphic artist. She creates books for children, posters and theatre scenography. Author of children's literature. Together with Zofia Stanecka - author of the literary layer - she created a series of books about five-year-old Basia, described as "the heroine of all preschoolers". She is the author of picture books for the youngest ("Numbers", "Colours" and "Opposites") inspired by native folklore. Reaching for elements of folk aesthetics is a recurring gesture in her work.
Rafal Witek
Author of over twenty books for children (including Plaża tajemnic, Julka Kulka, Fioletka i ja, Maja na tropie jaja, Klub latających ciotek, Pierwszaki z kosmosu, Bzik & Makówka series). Collaborates with the children's magazine "Świerszczyk", the portal qlturka.pl and the Warsaw children's choir MILLE VOCI. Winner of the Kornel Makuszyński national literary award, laureate of the Astrid Lindgren competition. His novel The Boy from Lampedusa was nominated for the Kornel Makuszyński Literary Award, won a distinction in the 3rd Child-friendly Book competition and the main prize in the Leopold Staff Literary Competition.
Sarah Lundberg
Sara Lundberg is one of the most respected Swedish illustrators and authors of children's books. For her work, she was nominated for the Nordic Council Literary Award, received the August Prize and many other important awards and distinctions. Sara Lundberg's books published in Poland include: "The Bird That Lives in Me, Flies Wherever It Wants", a story about a young girl who, despite the protests of her surroundings, has the courage and readiness to face the consequences of following her own path, the picture book "Me and the Others", with text by Ylva Karlsson, in which in ten scenes we learn the story of ten children, their thoughts and emotions, and the book "A Walk with a Cat", which is a universal story about relationships, not only for cat lovers.
Veronica Marczak
Weronika Anna Marczak is a Polish writer, especially known for her young adult genre. The series of books she wrote, The Monet Family, became a bestseller and is considered a new phenomenon in literature dedicated to young people.
Agata Romaniuk
Writer, reporter, sociologist with a PhD from the Polish Academy of Sciences. Graduate of the Polish School of Reportage and founder of the Głośniej Reporterska Group. Author of books for children and adults. In 2021, the first part of the detective series for children "Kocia Szajka" was published. She is also the author of a bilingual book for children entitled "Bal u lamorożca. Polish-Ukrainian fairy tales about friendship"
Edyta Jungowska
Edyta Jungowska is the founder of the Jung-Off-Ska publishing house. Fascinated by the work of Astrid Lindgren, she decided to publish the most important works of the Swedish writer in the form of audio books. In this way, in 2010, on her initiative, the Jung-Off-Ska publishing house was established, as well as a series of audiobooks with the adventures of Pippi, the Children of Bullerbyn, Karlsson of the Roof, the Brothers Lionheart, Emil of Småland and others. To date, over 40 titles by Astrid Lindgren have been published on the market, and other excellent authors and their books are also appearing in the form of audiobooks, including titles by Erich Kästner, Hugh Lofting, Mary Norton and Michael Ende.
Barbara Supel
Barbara Supeł - Polish translator and writer of children's books, known primarily for the series about Staś and Jadzia Pętelka. Author of the "Family" series - poem portraits of people closest to every child: Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, Sister and Brother. She translated into Polish Rachel Bright's poem books, such as "Koala, who held on" or "Squirrels, who didn't want to share", "Mysz, who wanted to be a lion" or "Przytulozaur". She collaborates with the Polish publishing house Zielona Sowa and Storyside.
Joanna Jagiełło
Joanna Jagiełło – author of books for children, teenagers and adults, as well as a poet. Awarded many times, including in the Astrid Lindgren Literary Competition and by the Polish Section of IBBY. Her literary debut was the volume of poetry "Moje wiersze donikąd" published in 1997. She was associated with the KORALE Literary and Artistic Group. She wrote the youth novel "Kawa z kardamonem" for the competition, but the jury did not award it. Shortly afterwards, the book was published by Wydawnictwo Literatura, and in 2011 it was nominated for the Donga Award and the literary award of the Polish section of IBBY Book of the Year 2011. The novel has been translated into Ukrainian and Russian, and is required reading in Ukraine. Member of the Warsaw branch of the Association of Polish Writers.
Zofia Stanecka
Zofia Stanecka – Polish children's writer, author of books about Basia's adventures. So far, a dozen or so publications have been published in this series. In addition, she is the author of such titles as: "Samodzielny. Wstaje sam", "Baśń o Świętegom pokoju" and "Księga Ludenson". All of the above-mentioned titles are dedicated to the youngest readers. The books "Świat według dziadka" and "Domino i Muki. Po drugiej stronie czasu" received a special distinction and were included on the List of Treasures of the Children's Book Museum.
Justyna Bednarek
Justyna Bednarek – Polish journalist and author of bestselling, critically acclaimed children's novels. Her books have been awarded many times, including the Literary Award of the Capital City of Warsaw and the Koziołek Matołek Award. The author's most famous novel is the book entitled "Niesamowite przygody dnia ludzi skarbek", which has become a part of school reading lists. In total, she has written over 50 books. A characteristic feature of the author's books is certainly the amazing illustrations that stimulate children's imagination. The writer makes every effort to ensure that children cannot tear themselves away from her fairy tales and return to them with pleasure.
Wojciech Widłak
Wojciech Widłak - Polish writer of children's books, long-time member of the editorial staff of the monthly "Dziecko", where he made his debut as an author of short stories for children. Known especially for the series about Pan Kuleczka (with illustrations by Elżbieta Wasiuczyńska) and Wesoły Ryjek (in cooperation with illustrator Agnieszka Żelewska). In 2012, for the moving story about a child's illness "Dwa serca anioła" (with illustrations by Paweł Pawlak) he received the Duży Donga award (awarded by the Polish Section of IBBY). Winner of, among others, the Literary Award "Srebrny Kałamarz" named after Hermenegilda Kociubińska (2008) and the awards Guliwer w krainie Liliputów (2013) and PEGAZIK (2016).
