Reading Rescuers 2023/2024 – summary of this year's edition of the program

The third edition of the 2023/2024 Reading Rescuers program has ended. This year's edition was held under the slogan: Discovering New Lands, which referred to the search for methods of popularizing reading, as well as developing reading curiosity.

This year, the main goal of the project was to draw attention to innovative ways of learning to read, to encourage the creation of reference libraries in classrooms and after-school clubs, and to make books appear in school corridors.

In the past school year, 233 institutions and 250 coordinators of reading projects joined the program. A total of 483 certificates of participation in the campaign were awarded, including 20 certificates from the Reading Rescuers Circle for public and pedagogical libraries.

The aim of the project is to share knowledge and inspirations on popularizing reading. Useful materials, research, book recommendations, and a bank of ideas for taking pro-reading actions within several key areas are available to all interested parties – aimed at children, teachers, parents, and also based on cooperation with other entities and activities outside the facilities.

As part of the 2023/2024 edition, many webinars and meetings with experts were held. Participants could take part in 13 training courses, as well as join meetings as part of the "dinner with a book" series, in which experts recommend good books that can become important reading not only for students.

By implementing the Reading Rescuers program, the Universal Reading Foundation emphasizes the huge role of books in equalizing children's chances to achieve success in school, as well as in later life. The vision that guides the building of a rescue community of educators-leaders is the comprehensive development of students and teachers so, to care for each other, to care for the world around them, to be able to talk to each other, to understand and respect each other. Reading books builds such communities.

We invite you to join the next edition of the program, which will start in September. Details of the next edition, which will start in September, together with the new school year, will be provided, together with the rules of participation, in August on the website of the Reading Rescuers.
