"eMOCje. Closer to others, close to yourself" - we invite you to a series of meetings in Sopoteka

"eMOCje. Closer to others, close to yourself" is a series of various activities of the Sopot Library focused on issues related to mental health. The two-year project aims to educate people about psychology and promote literature in which one can find the answer to the question of how to take care of one's mental health. The Powszechnego Czytania Foundation has assumed media patronage over the project. 

As part of the project, in October, one of the branches of the Sopot Library – Sopoteka – a multimedia culture gallery – will be held meetings with authors from the world of psychology and lectures on various psychological issues.

October 10, 6:00 p.m., author's meeting with Katarzyna Kucewicz 

Katarzyna Kucewicz, psychologist, will share her experience in working with people struggling with problems related to diet culture, excess weight and social pressure. The conversation will focus on healthy weight loss, the impact of social media on body image and fat shaming, which is still a painful problem in our society. The meeting will be led by Karolina Robakiewicz. 

Katarzyna Kucewicz – psychologist, psychotherapist, has been working in the field of helping for over 10 years, conducting psychotherapy and counseling for people experiencing crises in relationships, problems with self-esteem and self-acceptance. In addition to therapeutic work, she has the pleasure of popularizing psychology in the media. She is a regular author of texts in "Wysokie Obcasy", an expert on the Sympatia.pl portal. She collaborates with Polish Radio, RDC, Radio Eska, TVN, TVP, TV Superstacja, author of the book "Waga z głowy".

October 12, 6:00 p.m., author's meeting with Prof. Bogdan de Barbaro 

Bogdan de Barbaro, a renowned psychotherapist and professor of psychiatry, will present his perspective on the role of psychotherapy in the modern world. During the meeting, we will try to find an answer to the question of whether, in an era of increasing pace of life and omnipresent stress, therapy is the key to better understanding oneself and coping with the challenges of everyday life. Bogdan de Barbaro – psychiatrist, psychotherapist, family therapist. Graduate of the Medical Academy in Warsaw (1973). In 1993, he obtained the academic degree of doctor habilitated in medical sciences at the Faculty of Medicine of the Jagiellonian University Medical College. He received the academic title of professor in 2007. For many years, he has been professionally associated with, among others, the Jagiellonian University Medical College. In the years 1990-2016 he was the head of the Department of Family Therapy at the Department of Psychiatry, and then the head of the Department of Psychiatry (2016-2019). Supervisor of psychotherapy of the Polish Psychiatric Association, corresponding member of the American Psychiatric Association. Member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the journal Psychiatry. Interpersonal and Biological Processes. Author, co-author and editor of publications in the field of psychotherapy, therapy of schizophrenia, family therapy.

October 7, 6:00 PM, How to support a teenager? Meeting for parents

Parents of teenagers know that coming to terms with them can be difficult. Adolescence is a special time in a child's life. It can be demanding and full of challenges not only for teenagers - the whole family can encounter difficulties. How can you support a teenager to really help them? What to say, what to do, and what behaviors to avoid? Together we will look for answers to these not-so-easy questions. The meeting will be in the form of an open lecture, during which listeners will have the opportunity to ask questions.

October 14, 6:00 PM, Emotions in Mourning. Psychological Workshops for Adults 

Mourning is a time of experiencing various emotions, including sadness, anger, regret, guilt, and relief. It is a process that cannot be skipped. Sometimes the mourning process is postponed, but this does not mean that we will avoid pain. Family, loved ones, and friends provide significant support for people who have suffered a loss. What factors influence the mourning process? Why is mourning particularly difficult? What does a person experiencing a loss need? How can you accompany a person in mourning? How long does mourning last? 

October 18, 6:00 PM, Suicidal behavior among young people. Psychological workshops for adults 

We invite you to a meeting where we will talk about suicidal behavior. What should draw our attention? How to prevent suicidal behavior among young people? How to support people in crisis? Where to seek help? Talking about suicidal thoughts is often the first step in supporting people in suicidal crisis, it is a chance to help them. Let's not underestimate this. 

The lectures will be given by Marta Zawadzka-Zboś – psychologist, psychotraumatologist, psychosexologist, sex educator. She has been gaining professional experience since 2016, among others, in foundations, hospitals, clinics, schools, etc. She is constantly training to be up to date with current scientific knowledge. She participates in various psychological and sexological conferences. She has undergone her own individual psychotherapy. She supervises her work. She cooperates on a project with PPP in Sopot in the field of psychological support for families from Sopot, which is implemented with the Sopot Mental Health Clinic SENSODZIECI. She is the co-author of the educational and instructional booklet "Tulaśna Tula in the hospital" for children and adults.
