Why reading should become our "new climate" and how to get all hands on deck? – this was the slogan under which Maria Deskur, president of the Universal Reading Foundation, presented the strategy for "Reading Poland" to the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, at the invitation of the Committee on Culture, National Heritage and the Media.
One of the topics was reading as a tool for achieving sustainable development goals. Agnieszka Rasińska-Bóbr (Book Institute), Edyta Wiśniowska (Ministry of Culture and National Heritage), and Małgorzata Szybalska (Ministry of National Education) also participated in the discussion.
Here are the key takeaways from the meeting. Reading is an essential tool:
– building individual development, giving every child the opportunity to realize their potential
– enables education (it is a fundamental competence, as defined by the Ministry of National Education in the graduate profile)
– building future competencies for the formation of future citizens who are active and economically effective
– resistance to disinformation and democratic resilience.
