For the second time, the Universal Reading Foundation, in collaboration with the Book Institute, has prepared an online course for midwives and medical staff working with pregnant women. The training, titled "Small Book – Great Man: How to Support Children's Development from the First Moments of Life," aims to promote the idea of reading to children from birth.
The initiative is an extension of the nationwide "Small Book – Great Man" program, through which the Book Institute has been encouraging parents to introduce books to their children early. This iteration of the project highlights the important role midwives play in educating young parents and supporting them in building a close bond with their children through shared reading.
Midwives are the first people to accompany parents and children during these crucial, early moments in life. Their support and knowledge can have a profound impact on the decisions a family makes. – says Katarzyna Humeniuk, coordinator of the Small Book – Great Man project, representative of the Book Institute.
The training is conducted by renowned experts: neonatologist Beata Rzepecka-Węglarz, MD, PhD, and pediatrician and immunologist Wojciech Feleszko, MD, PhD.
The course program includes knowledge about child development in the first months of life, the importance of reading aloud for emotional and linguistic development, and practical tips on how to effectively encourage parents to read to their children from birth.
Midwives who take part in the training will receive an ambassador package, including monthly access to a selected library of e-books and audiobooks funded by woblink, books on child development and a set of materials that will help them convince parents of the value of reading aloud to children from the first days of life.
The course is available free of charge and takes place online, allowing convenient access for all interested professionals throughout Poland.
The project aims not only to raise awareness of the importance of early reading, but also to build a culture of shared reading in Polish families, which has a direct impact on a child's intellectual and emotional development.
