On November 13, the conference "Cheers...Read!" was held in Zabrze. How to use reading books for the development of an individual, community and region? Grzegorz Majerowicz, a member of the board of the Universal Reading Foundation, spoke about this during the meeting, emphasizing the importance of reading for the implementation of sustainable development goals - equality, education, health.
Tomasz Iwasiów, director of the Municipal Public Library in Zabrze, spoke about the democratic role of libraries. Prof. dr hab. n. med. Piotr Przybyłowski, director of the Silesian Center for Heart Diseases in Zabrze, emphasized the importance of reading initiatives for future generations and their development.
The conference was attended by outstanding experts: Prof. Jagoda Cieszyńska-Rożek spoke about the impact of early reading instruction on children's development, Deputy Director of the National Center for Culture, Michał Rydzewski presented the assumptions of the National Reading Development Program 2.0, including plans to support libraries and build a reading culture. Prof. Marek Kaczmarzyk spoke about the neurobiological significance of reading for the development of empathy and understanding others. Dr. Wanda Matras-Mastalerz presented the therapeutic power of bibliotherapy.
Reading is not only personal development, but also social development. It is also an investment in the health and well-being of citizens.
