Bookstore Night on October 4th. Almost 200 events in 180 bookstores
On October 4, readers will take part in the Bookstore Night for the sixth time. As many as 180 bookstores from 70 towns have joined the event organized by the book distributor OSDW Azymut. Readers can expect almost 200 free events, including reading marathons of Czesław Miłosz's poetry, discussions with translators, meetings with authors, music, art, and literature workshops - for children and adults, as well as walks in the footsteps of writers, competitions, and fairs. Meet your favorite writers and translators
Bookstore Night is primarily about meetings. Firstly, meetings with booksellers and booksellers who will recommend good books. Secondly, with book creators – writers, translators, illustrators. Celebrate the Year of Miłosz during the Night of Bookstores
The organizers invite you to a joint reading of the poetry of Czesław Miłosz – the literary patron of 2024. In the beautiful interiors of the Compare Bookstore on the Main Market Square, the Nobel Prize winner's poems will be interpreted by theater actors Kamila Klimczak and Juliusz Chrząstowski, accompanied by Zbyszek Szwajdych on the trumpet. In the second part of the evening, the audience is also invited to the reading. The event's partner is the clothing brand Medicine, which has prepared the "Medicine on the occasion of the Year of Miłosz" collection.
Miłosz readings will also take place in the Wokulscy.pl bookstore and antiquarian bookshop in Rybnik, the Muszyńscy Bookstore in Wągrowiec, and the Barbara Skrzyńska Bookstore in Brzeg Dolny.
For Miłosz enthusiasts, the organizers of the Night of Bookstores in cooperation with the Znak publishing house have also prepared the exhibition "Miłosz on the Censored"; the works of the future Nobel Prize winner that were published in the literary underground, or the so-called second circulation, will be presented. The exhibition will be available for viewing at Między Słowami in Lublin, Makama in Krapkowice, Muszyńscy in Wągrowiec, Księgarnia Barbara Skrzyńska in Brzeg Dolny and the Omnibus Antiquarian Bookstore in Sosnowiec.
How about a literary walk?
The program of the Night of Bookstores also includes literary walks. Prof. Błażej Brzostek, historian and author of books about the capital, will lead the route of Warsaw bookstores and antiquarian bookshops that no longer exist. The walk will start at 6:00 p.m. at the Leksykon Bookstore at Nowy Świat 41.
The organizers also invite you to a walk in the footsteps of Marek Hłasko, which will be led by Dorota Ryst, a poet and cultural animator. Hłasko was born in Warsaw, lived, studied, created and led an intense social life. The walk will begin at the Big Book Cafe MDM bookstore at ul. Koszykowa 34/50.
Walks around the capital are co-organized by the Capital City of Warsaw.
In Krakow, poet and writer Urszula Honek invites you for a walk together with Krakowskie Księgarnia na Medal. The walk starts at 5:00 PM at the Main Scientific Bookstore (ul. Podwale 6). Readers will follow the path of friendship between Stanisław Czycz and Andrzej Bursa. They will look for traces of this relationship in the Dom Literatów, Krzysztofory, Piwnica Pod Baranami, among others.
Take your children to a workshop
The organizers of the Night of Bookstores invite the youngest to, among others, magic workshops – on the occasion of the premiere of the book "Harry Potter. Christmas at Hogwarts" illustrated by Ziyi Gao. and to workshops with Albert Albertson and the elephant Pomelo. There will also be meetings with authors of children's books: Piotr Karski, Dominika Czerniak-Chojnacka, Michał Figura – about their books published by Dwie Siostry publishing house; Barbara Gawryluk, Katarzyna Ryrych, Grażyna Bąkiewicz – authors of the Literatura publishing house. The youngest readers can expect a pajama party, a small table theater, bedtime story reading, comic workshops with Natalia Noszczyńska and talks with Marcin Szczygielski about how to age a monster (!).
The Bookstore Night programme also includes events for readers of Young Adult literature – together with the Jaguar publishing house, the organisers invite you to meetings with writers: Kinga Boruczkowska, Aleksandra Muraszka and Zuzanna Wólczyńska.
Popular science lectures with PWN
PWN Bookstores will have many wonderful guests on Bookstore Night! Andrzej Selenta, author of the book "When Dreams Come True. Mieczysław Bekker's Journey from Strzyżów to the Moon", Grażyna Bastek with the premiere of "Ilustrownik. Przewodnik po sztuka malarskie" and Jan Hartman with the stand-up "O istnieniu świata i teoria światów życia" will visit PWN Bookstore in Warsaw. In PWN Bookstore in Gdańsk, readers will meet Ewelina Supińska with a lecture on the book "Pierwsza pomoc psychologiczna" and in Łódź - Grzegorz Radłowski with the premiere of "Ekonomia rationalnych być". PWN Bookstores on Bookstore Night also invite you to the Great Science Fair.

Dinner with a book
This year, during the Night of Bookstores, there will also be two events organized by the Universal Reading Foundation - in Warsaw at the Tarabuk bookstore and in Katowice, at the Biksa bookstore. These will be unique discussion panels "Dinner with a book", where literature enthusiasts and experts from the Reading Rescuers program will share their inspirations and knowledge about the latest publishing gems. This is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of books, discover new titles and understand how literature affects education and reading development.
