On October 17th, Libraries Night, a nationwide event promoting reading and library use, will take place across Poland. This year, thousands of attractions and special events are united by the slogan "Let's get to work!".\u00a0<\/b>Nearly 1,600 libraries have already registered to participate, and more are joining every day.<\/b><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Libraries Night is one of the largest reading events in Poland. Every year, libraries from all over the country participate, organizing sleepovers and relaxation zones between the shelves, screenings of book adaptations, literary games and activities, dances with music from various literary genres, and hundreds of author sessions with literary stars.<\/span><\/p>

This campaign serves as a reminder that libraries are extraordinary places, with enormous potential, not only culturally but also socially. We want them to be recognized as spaces that foster integration, worth visiting for more than just borrowing a book. Through many unconventional initiatives, we are challenging stereotypes, presenting them as modern places with new books, audiobooks, and e-book subscriptions, a wide selection of magazines and games, and a variety of workshops and activities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

This year's theme, "Let's Get to Work!", is an invitation to activity, co-creation, and courage in action. It refers not only to literature but also to art, creativity, education, and social engagement. We encourage libraries and their guests to undertake joint initiatives that connect people and unlock local potential.<\/span><\/p>

"On this special Night, we're shining a spotlight on libraries so that as many people as possible can get to know them and recognize them as places worth visiting," says Katarzyna So\u0142tan-M\u0142odo\u017ceniec from the Center for Civic Education, the event's national coordinator since the first edition. "It's worth emphasizing that libraries are among the few places that don't exclude anyone, provide everyone with equal, open access to cultural goods, are free from commercialism, and are also ecological by nature, promoting the idea of exchange\u2014of books, of course, but increasingly also of other resources\u2014ideas, objects, and neighborly skills," she adds.<\/span><\/p>

Every year, the event is accompanied by the "Share Your Books" campaign, which encourages readers to bring new releases they have read and other sought-after titles to libraries.<\/span><\/p>

All libraries are invited to participate: public, school, academic, and various institutions and organizations. From the oldest Polish libraries with their literary treasures to community libraries with open shelves. Applications are open until October 17th.<\/span><\/p>

The CEO will soon announce a program featuring a selection of the most interesting events in libraries across Poland. The Night of Libraries program will include: a nationwide literary fling with quotes from masters of the word, including Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska, patron saint of the year; detective workshops and crime puzzles; warm-ups with hefty volumes; nighttime book tours; dressing up as book characters; all-night reading marathons, even in the dark; collaborative creation of horror stories; exhibitions of special collections and warehouse tours; concerts and singing workshops; literary treats; and brain-boosting upside-down reading competitions.<\/span><\/p>

The ceremonial inauguration of the Night of Libraries<\/span><\/a> will take place in Warsaw in the newly opened metro library \u2013 <\/span>Metroteka \u2013 Library at the Kondratowicza metro station<\/span><\/a> (branch of the Public Library in the Targ\u00f3wek District of the Capital City of Warsaw).<\/span><\/p>

The opening will be broadcast to libraries throughout Poland.<\/span><\/p>

To celebrate the opening of the nationwide Night of Libraries 2025 at Metroteka, we encourage everyone to show up that day, using any means of communication, with a book borrowed from the library.
